Wedding Rings With The Perfect Style

July 25th, 2009

Wedding rings are an extremely important symbol of a couple's love for each other. As such, finding the right wedding rings for both the husband and the wife to be is the first major decision most couples will make together. Knowing what styles of wedding rings you both prefer and managing to combine these styles into one set of rings is sometimes a bit of a challenge, but one that will be important for the rest of your life.

Choosing a specific type of metal for your wedding rings, specifically the bands and settings, will be the first part of the process. Metal for wedding rings can range from different colors of gold through to platinum, titanium, palladium and even traditional silver. Different metals may also be used on the band to create detail work and designs.

Wedding rings for men and wedding rings for women can come in matching styles or they can be different from each other. Women that have matching engagement rings and wedding bands may be able to find a complimentary or matching men's band to match the set, or they may opt for a gold or other metal band that is understated and simplistic.  Many wedding rings come in matching sets for men and women, taking all the guesswork out of what will look good together.

Silver is a popular choice for metals in some traditional and cultural types of wedding rings. Celtic designs are commonly found in silver, white gold, platinum or palladium and more recently in titanium. Two tone gold and another metal can enhance the detail in these highly stylized rings. Symbols of love and eternity are favored in Celtic designs including knots, woven patterns and crosses. Emeralds and diamonds are popular stones in these traditional and modern styles of rings .

Very traditional antique wedding rings are a great option either as estate jewelry purchases or by buying replica antique wedding rings. Not only are these rings timeless in their styles but they also have very beautiful settings and bands.

Not all wedding rings need to have diamonds and the simple elegant beauty of a plain band is a classic wedding ring option. Some wedding rings for both men and women may feature inset diamonds that are flush with the surface of the ring. This works well with any style of engagement ring .

Newer rings styles vary considerably from the more traditional antique stylings to very modern, simplistic styles. Wedding rings with more modern designs may feature engraving or even symbols inset into the band for unique wedding sets. Bands on newer styles of rings tend to be wider and heavier than more traditional bands.

By taking the time to consider all the features that you like or don’t like in wedding rings on the market you are more able to select the best match for your life together.  Knowing what wedding rings will suit your lifestyle is also an important consideration in this milestone purchase .

Jewelry hallmarks

Professional jewelry appraisals completed by gemologists and valuers often have to take into account the effect the jewelry hallmarks have on the value of each item being appraised. Do they alter the price, up or down, depending on the hallmark. The simple answer is yes – and no. It depends on the hallmarks themselves and where they come from.

I get similar questions on forums and ‘expert’ websites, together with my own members discussion group. They are usually in the following format, and in general the same questions get asked over and over again. They go… Continue reading Jewelry Hallmarks And What They Mean...

Most people when they imagine a pearl are picturing perfect large round spherical gems, creamy white in colour with a shimmery iridescent surface. The reality is that pearls are usually irregular in shape, each one is different and to find one that is completely round is almost unheard of, not to mention trying to make a whole necklace of pearls that are all more or less the same. Natural pearls are the rarest and most highly valued variety, but nowadays most pearl jewellery is made from cultured or farmed pearls, which are grown on pearl farms… Continue reading What are the Main Differences Between Freshwater and Saltwater Pearls?...

Name jewelry is one of the trendiest types of fashion accessory for both men and women. A large part of this modern upswing in popularity is due to the hip hop culture where large name jewelry items have become the defining fashion in bling. While much of the current fashion is large, bling-style pieces, name jewelry can range from delicate and subtle to big and bold. But name jewelry is also very popular as traditional mothers jewelry. Name rings and name necklaces are by far the most popular items with online stores and retailers… Continue reading Name Jewelry Trends...
