Tanzanite Ring from the Caribbean

October 25, 2007 By: admin Category: Diamonds & Gemstones No Comments →

Ring Question: I bought a ring at a reputable jewelry store in Georgetown Grand Cayman, I was told it was a 1.48k tanzanite stone it is dark purple with a little blue to it set in a 14k white gold ring.

Emerald and Tanzanite Buying Guide

I bought this for $500 in the Caribbean,

Royal Caribbean says if it is not what I was told that they will reimburse me because it was recommended store.

My question is how much is this worth and it has a marking in it A/C and what does this mean?

Professional Jeweler - Don’t Think So…

June 25, 2007 By: admin Category: Pendant Appraisals No Comments →

Professional Jeweler - Don't Think So... I received an 'Ask The Expert' question over the weekend but didn't get around to answering it until this morning.

It highlights two major points - The first was Barbara's Question which was straight forward enough. You can see that, together with my response below - but the WORST part was the 'So Called Service' her jeweler provided.

Who knows what he charged her for this rubbish...

So here is a photo as supplied to the client. I have followed it with an example image of our ONLINE appraisal Certificate.

Which one would you rather have..?

Here's Barbara's Question: Hi there, I bought some antique jewelry and I guess it was pre 1906 because there is no mark on the pieces.

Anyway there are 3 pieces: a pendant and earring set.

The stones are ruby and white sapphire.

Now the gold content was tested..Is this reliable?

The jeweler said that it was no guarantees because it was not marked on the set???

Here is a picture of the set and the note written by the Jeweler saying it was 18K. Your opinion please??

Thank you

Shell Cameo Value

June 20, 2007 By: admin Category: Brooch Appraisals No Comments →

Shell Cameo Value Question: I have a cameo that my great aunt gave to me.

It belonged to her mother-in-law. It looks like a real shell-carved one.

Cameos: A Pocket Guide With Values (Schiffer Book for Collectors)

Cameos: A Pocket Guide With Values (Schiffer Book for Collectors)

Price: $16.27

It has a 10kt stamp on the back. It is a pin and also can be used with a chain.

I do not know much about cameos. Maybe you could tell me how to tell if it is valuable.

From what I understand my great aunt's mother-in-law was well off.

Thank you!

Value of Pearl Necklace

June 17, 2007 By: admin Category: Pendant Appraisals No Comments →

The question came in to Ask The Appraiser and I thought it would be very relevant, so I have added it here.

----------

Pearl Necklace Question:

I am trying to get an idea on the value of a pearl necklace that has been handed down to me from my grandmother.

The Pearl Necklace

The Pearl Necklace

It was purchased around 1905 in New York City, USA. It is of very good quality, 18 inches long with each white pearl being approximately 7mm in width.

I very much appreciate your time.

Thank you, Eileen

Longines Watch Appraisals?

May 02, 2007 By: admin Category: Mens Jewelry Appraisals 2 Comments →

Longines Watch Appraisal Question: Hello this is Stacey. I am interested in appraising a watch I got from my greatgrandmother.

Longines Swiss WatchesLongines Watches

Price: $55.00 USD

My fear is that I spend money to have it appraised and it's worth nothing.

I have looked for hours online and e-bay and such and I can't find a watch just like it anywhere. Is this a good thing.?

It is a Longines, 14k solid gold watch. It's believed to be from the late 50's early 60's. I have a number from the back plate and it still works.

I am interested in selling it but have no idea if it's worth anything.

I was told by one jeweler it was 2 to 4 thousand. That seems odd for something I have had tucked away for years.

Let me know if you think it would be worth appraising for selling or personal purposes.

Thank you for your time!
