Selecting a Diamond Tennis Bracelet

October 03, 2008 By: Guest Author Category: General Jewelry Appraisals No Comments →

When one seeks a gemstone bracelet, diamonds in a tennis-style bracelet are a splendid choice. But choosing a bracelet, whether it be a diamond tennis bracelet or any other, is a personal choice. It must reflect your style as well as your unique fashion sense. Diamonds in tennis bracelets are a superb choice, because diamonds have such a hard toughness that they cannot be scratched, yet are still beautiful works out art. Diamonds, however, can encounter other dangers. The setting quality and cut of stone, as well as the clasp's integrity, will often determine the strength of a bracelet.

It is essential to recognize quality in a diamond tennis bracelet. First you must choose your diamonds at a well-known jewelry dealer's shop, one with a good reputation. To affirm the dealer does carry gems of high quality, first view some loose stones before committing to buying anything.

Browse the finished bracelets. Find out which stones you like best, whether the diamonds be colored or not.

Focus on metal setting. This way you will get a feel for whether you prefer simple chains or tooled settings, and whether you would like them to dangle or a closely hug your wrist.

Examine the bracelets you like with a jeweler's lope, looking for diamond quality. Since the setting limits the view somewhat, note as much about brilliance and clarity as possible.

Return and examine the bracelet in different lightings, coming at different times of the day to see how it looks in the natural light at that time of day. Since light affects different diamonds in different ways, you will wish to know how they perform in different circumstances.

After choosing a bracelet you simply cannot live without, ask for documents of its authenticity.

Since a novice can evaluate loose stones for quality a lot easier, look at them as is, and then with a magnifier in order to detect any flaws in the stones themselves.

When choosing a setting, keep in mind that gold and white gold will not tarnish.

Get your jewelry appraised by an outside source. Best thing you could do.

See that the stones are set well, since a tennis bracelet is as susceptible to knocks and bumps as a ring is. Buy from a well-known and reputable dealer.

For cleaning diamonds, you will need dish washing liquid, tooth brushes, small bowls, and paper towels.

Remember to take care of your jewelry, and it will love you for a long time to come.

How Pure Is Platinum?

December 13, 2007 By: admin Category: General Jewelry Appraisals No Comments →

Platinum ring Question: I have a platinum ring and on the inside it says PLAT with a star after it.

I was trying to figure out how pure the platinum is that was used in it because I am thinking about selling it and although at one time I had a certificate for it from the original jeweler I have moved and cannot seem to find it.

Gem & Jewelry Pocket Guide: A Traveler's Guide to Buying Diamonds, Colored Gems, Pearls, Gold and Platinum Jewelry (Gem & Jewelry Pocket Guide)

Price: $6.75

I think the purest would say 950 in the marking but I can't seem to find out what mine is I don't have alot of time to go have it appraised on my days off I am usually pretty busy so I was just wondering if anyone here might be able to help me.

I bought in in Philadelphia and I live in California now and I had a certificate the jeweler gave me with it but it is lost in the move somehow.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you and have a great day!

Gold verses Titanium

June 07, 2007 By: admin Category: General Jewelry Appraisals No Comments →

Titanium vs. silver Question: Hello, I have a Titanium engagement ring and while shopping for a wedding band I found one by Vanna K made in gray silver with pave sapphires set along all three sides of the ring.

The Ruby & Sapphire Buying Guide: How to Spot Value & Ripoffs

Price: $4.98

The dealer told me that my silver engagement ring will cause loss over time to the gray metal from scraping up against it, since silver is more durable than gold.

Is this true or do you reflect he was just hoping for us to cough up for the added cost to have the ring ordered in gold?

Thank you very much, Alyssa

Rhodium Plating

December 12, 2006 By: admin Category: General Jewelry Appraisals No Comments →

Rhodium Plating and pave Diamonds

Question: I have a white gold ring which is rhodium plated.

Step-by-Step Jewelry Workshop: Simple Techniques for Soldering, Wirework, and Metal Jewelry

Price: $15.60

I hear sometimes the ring will tarnish and needs to be re-plated with the rhodium.

Will this be an issue with a ring with pave diamonds? Do all these diamonds have to be removed before it can be re-plated.

Is there a significant difference in price between a white gold-rhodium plated ring and a platinum ring.

Do platinum rings tarnish as well?

Thanks...
