Inside The Jewelry Appraisal Kit

November 06, 2006 By: admin Category: General Jewelry Appraisals 3 Comments →

Inside the Jewelry Appraisal Kit.

Here we have a quick summary of what is in the Online Jewelry Appraisal Kit used for Self Valuation of your Jewelry at Home or Work, plus what type of questions are in each section. It will give you some idea of what to expect…

Inside the Jewelry Appraisal Kit…

  • Contents of Kit…

There are only six pages in the form, plus the opening Terms and Conditions and Summary page at the end.

You have only one choice of Payment which is through Paypal, in any currency through virtually any credit card, and from almost any country in the World.

The company has a VERY secure site and is First class. How Banking should be…
Not a Member of Paypal? Not a problem. It’s FREE.

We find Paypal is the best way to make payments Internationally as it is almost instant, and you have the advantage of Downloading your Valuation Appraisal Certificate for copying to your own Printer once the form is complete.

After making payment you will be redirected to the Valuation Manager Registration page where you will start on your Appraisal Kit.

Breakdown by page

  • Page one: General Details.

Page one is the easiest as it just asks for your general details. Name, address etc. You will need this for your Valuation but you can elect NOT to have it added to the final Certificate (if you are doing one for someone else, for example).

The system is designed to price your Valuation Self Appraisal automatically into the currency of your country.

We are able to convert into the following:

  • US$ Dollars
  • UK£ Pounds
  • EU€ Euros
  • CA$ Canadian Dollars
  • NZ$ New Zealand Dollars
  • JP¥ Japanese Yen
  • AU$ Australian Dollars

ALL OTHER COUNTRIES WILL DEFAULT TO US$ DOLLARS…

If there is a strong demand for other currencies, please contact us and we will endeavor to add it to the system.

You can also upload a small photo from this page which will be printed on the final Certificate for identification and security.

  • Page two: What is your Jewelry Made From?

Nice and easy with prompts such as:

  • ‘What color is the metal?’ and if you know,
  • ‘Is it made from gold, silver or Platinum.’

You will also be asked for the weight of the item, so it may pay you to read some of our suggestions in the ‘What you Need to Do-it-Yourself ‘ help page.

If you haven’t read it yet, you might like to go there next to be sure you have everything you need.

THERE IS ALSO A DEMO OF THIS PAGE AVAILABLE.

  • Page Three: Item Description.

Not too difficult as it just lists ‘What type’ of Jewelry you are valuing (Ring, Bracelet, Brooch etc) and simple measurements such as ‘How long is it…’ if it is a Chain or Bracelet. Is it ‘Engraved’ and other small minor details.

  • Page Four: Item Manufacture.

Straightforward questions such as:

  • How many claws does your Jewelry have
  • The Type of Manufacture
  • Is it an ‘Antique’ item
  • Does it show any signs of wear, and so on.

There are help menus, hints and tips on every page of the Kit to help you though. This will also help simplify the ‘Age or Periods’ of an item. Well worth reading anyway.

In the Kit just click on this symbol Information Symbol used inside the Jewelry Appraisal Kit to get ‘Information….

  • Page Five: Main Gemstone.

Of course, if you don’t have any gems in your Jewelry you can automatically ’skip’ this section and finish.

Diamond Jewelry is the most popular and the Valuation Kit has it well covered. Once again we are asking questions like the Identification of the Main Gemstone and some fundamental measurements together with the Color and Quality of the Gemstone. This is not difficult.

If you are not sure, the Help, Suggestions and Examples will assist in identifying and measuring your gems.

  • Page Six: Additional Gemstones.

Should your Jewelry have more than one Gemstone, then you can enter these details here. We need to know ‘How Many’ and again ‘What Type’ and size etc. It is very similar to the previous page.

You can repeat this section for other additional gemstones up to a maximum of seven types.

You can have any number of gems under each type so a cluster brooch with 200 diamonds, a center Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald with four Jade Cabochons and a side clip of Topaz and Aquamarine can all be calculated. Phew!

AND THAT’S IT…! Almost Painless.

  • The Summary or Confirmation page.

The Jewelry Appraisal Kit Self Valuation System shouldn’t take too long. Estimated 10 to 15 minutes - quicker if you have done one before or if you have the details written down before you begin (suggested) plus you can leave at any time and return within 30 days to resume any section until it is complete.

Up to this point, you can ‘Go Back and Forth’ and change details until you are satisfied the information you entered is correct.

  • Print your Certificate….

The Certificate is now ready for you to Download and Print on your own Printer at Home or Work.

Once you have finished printing your Certificate (as many copies as you need) you will no longer be able to print this particular Appraisal Valuation Kit again until it is due for renewal.

You can of course, start again with another ‘FRESH’ Online Jewelry Appraisal Kit if you have other items of Jewelry to Value.

  • Your Expectations…

The normal reaction after doing a Valuation depends on your level of expectation.

As a General rule, the more common reactions is ‘How come the price is so high?’ - or ‘…so low’.

You should realize that Valuations are done FOR INSURANCE REPLACEMENT PURPOSES.

That means it becomes a two edged sword.

The Insurance company covers your Jewelry for 12 months from the date of your policy. Therefore they need to ensure the price will be applicable some time into the future. One year ahead…

You may not lose your diamond jewelry until the last day of your cover, for example.

To that end, Jewelry Valuation Appraisals have to ‘Plan Ahead’ somehow, and foresee what price the item will be 12 months from now.

  • Other considerations are:
  • Exchange rates on the Dollar, Pound or Euro
  • What will the price of Gold be next year?
  • What will inflation do to prices?
  • What about Jeweler’s wages?

The list goes on…

To overcome this, the gemologist/Valuer will inflate the price slightly. The down side is, you will pay more for your policy.

  • This leads directly to ‘Your Expectations’.

Sometimes you may have paid too much for your jewelry - other times, you may have gained a Bargain.

If you think there is something seriously wrong, then by all means get a second opinion.

Write to us or check the figures you entered are correct by going through them again in the Kit. We suggest however, that you SHOULD NOT value new Jewelry, as the only people who can value that correctly is the Manufacturing Company who just made it.

Also don’t value anything extraordinary.

If you have a 2.5 carat Georgian Pendant - see an expert.

Our system is designed under the 80/20 principle and we are more than happy for our Jewelry Appraisal Kit to value the majority of Antique, Second-hand and Fine Old Estate Jewelry - right up to Modern Jewelry.

It will do a first rate valuation on most items.

All that remains is your participation. We can’t do it for you!

Couldn’t be simpler.

We believe this information will assist you before you begin the Kit. We understand it is very frustrating to go so far and come across something unexpected. We trust this page will alleviate that.

All that is left is your First Step. Enjoy the experience.
