Gold Ring Markings

November 20th, 2007

Markings on a Gold Ring Question: Hi David, I recently purchased an 18kt yellow gold ring from a home shopping channel.

Buccellati: Art in Gold, Silver and Gems

Price: $27.75

On the inside is stamped AU 18kt Turkey.

I also purchased an 18kt yellow gold bracelet. The stamp says AU 18kt Italy.

Am assuming the ring is made in Turkey and the bracelet in Italy.

What does AU stand for?

thank you

Patricia... :-)

Answer: G'day Patricia and many thanks for your query.

You have a very beautiful name (I have to say that because my wife's name is Patricia and she's standing right next to me right now!) ;-)

The items are correctly identified as 18 karat or carat - depending what part of the world you come from, so there is no problem there, or with the country of origin.

22k Gold Bracelet Question: I took my 22k gold bracelet to a jewlery store to have four links taken out to resize so that it would not fall of my wrist.
