Gold Ring Found On A Beach
Markings Inside Ring Question: I found a ring on the beach last week and on the inside it is stamped 14 MP.

I have not been able to find out what the MP stands for.
The ring is quite nice and I’d like to see what the value might be.

Answer: G’day Kelly and many thanks for your query.
The problem is one of suggestion? People see the stamp 14 and assume it means 14 karat gold.
It may be - it may not - BUT you are not going to know until you take it to your local FRIENDLY jeweler/ Valuer who can check it for you.

They can see it, feel it, measure and test it - which I can’t - so you are going to have to shell - no beach pun intended 
out some cash to prove it is - what you hope it is, and can stop guessing.
Alternatively you might like to consider our Online Ring Appraisal Service.
The MP part could simply be a Makers Mark, Store ID or design identification. It has nothing to do with a correct hallmark for gold quality. It could even be the initials of the past owner like ‘Mary Power’ or MP for example.
If there is a real Mary Power out there (other than the one in Castletownbere in Ireland) your ring has been found and Kelly wants a reward - Just kidding
