Free Ring Valuations

February 4th, 2010

Ring Valuation Question: hi, this maybe a little vague, but i'm hoping you can give me a rough valuation on two pieces of jewellery.

9k yellow gold ring. white opal, 7 opals MTGW 2.084ct

18k yellow gold ring. Majestic pink sapphire MTGW 0.839ct

Many thanks regarding this...

Answer: G'day Mark and many thanks for your query.

The short answer is NO!

I can't see it, feel it, measure or test these items so how can I give you an answer? It is illegal for me to do so without confirming it is, what you think it is.

I suggest you see your local FRIENDLY jeweler and have them do a full and correct appraisal for you. They will charge you a fee for this, but at least then you'll have written proof and can stop guessing.

Jewelry hallmarks

Professional jewelry appraisals completed by gemologists and valuers often have to take into account the effect the jewelry hallmarks have on the value of each item being appraised. I get similar questions on forums and ‘expert’ websites, together with my own members discussion group. They are usually in the following format, and in general the same questions get asked over and over again. They go… Continue reading Jewelry Hallmarks And What They Mean...

  1. Kerri

Hi there I have a quick question, I have an engagement ring that I have only had for 2 years well under 2 years because we had a ton of problems and the jewlery store had my ring alot, any ways what does it mean when your 14k white gold is yellowing and has been for a while and what does it mean when you hold a black light to your ring and 2 of the dimonds glow almost white and then the rest dont do anything they look normal? Thanks for your time.

I have an old eastern star Free Masion ring that I found in my grandfathers basement. It reads 10k gold filled and has a star with symbols that I can barley make out inside the star and is surrounded by a ring of 9 diamonds. Any possibility this ring is worth anything? Thank you for your time.

Gold Filled is not the same as – GOLD. It is usually a silver or copper shell inside a gold thin layer on the outside, much like a plated item is.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news BUT…

As it’s a Mason’s Ring, it may be collectable, so check with a local dealer – just don’t sell to the first one you talk with :-)
