London Assay Office

I recently received a query from an unknown visitor to this blog with a simple - yet quite unusual comment on the different values to a wedding band made in the UK.

Here is their question...

Wedding BandI have a 22ct 4mm wedding band dated 1959 assay mark London and was going to sell it but wasn't sure what it was worth and wondered if u could advise me.

G'day (sorry I don't know your name) and many thanks for your query.

All assay offices are treated the same, so an item assayed in Birmingham is exactly the same as an item assayed in York or Dublin or even London.

A 22ct band is going to be valued the same because of the quality and weight - not by where it was assayed.

Hope this helps. If you need a Jewelry Appraisals Online Certificate, you can get one here.
