Helping You Locate That Perfect Birthday Gift

February 4th, 2010

first birthday

Shopping for a birthday gift should be exciting or at least tolerable and stress free. However, for many people the idea of selecting a birthday present for someone they know professionally is a bit daunting. Perhaps it comes from the idea that the recipient will be judging them by the type of gift chosen. Of course that is not normally the case, but for some it can make selecting what they think will be the perfect gift a frustrating chore.

Even if you do not know the person very well you can still manage to pick out an appropriate and thoughtful birthday greeting and gift. Start with the type of profession they are in or what job field they will be starting in. For example, someone who has just passed the bar would probably like a nice monogrammed briefcase. Are they going to be setting up in the medical field? What about a nice pen set or personalized lab coat? They will undoubtedly appreciate the fact that you took their professional interests into consideration when selecting the gift.

Obviously, the birth of a baby is one of the truly remarkable milestones in a person's life and you want the gift for their first birthday to be something special. Although art may not be the first thing that comes to mind when considering a present, imagine how wonderful it would be to give the child some type of original art or sculpture pertaining to Walt Disney. Disney has been a favorite with both children and adults for years, making it a very special birthday gift that is sure to be handed down for many generations.

For some, selecting birthday gifts for their father or grandfather can be a little frustrating as they want something that will say how special they are but still have that "manly" feel to it. Perhaps their 30th, 40th birthday or 50th birthday is coming up and you really want to get them something that will not only show how much you care but to also to commemorate a milestone birthday. Well take heart, as there are some great gift ideas that he will love, besides his favorite birthday cake.

For instance, if he is a sports fan, then consider having your baby's handprint imprinted on a baseball and displaying it in a nice case that dad or grandpa will love to show off. This is a great birthday idea and you can add a little card that says "Baby's first pitch" or something similar. It is possible that the most stoic and self controlled man will end up speechless and maybe even teary eyed when he opens this thoughtful birthday gift. Even if you have a little girl it will still be a great gift. Grandpa or Dad will believe it is that much more special because it is from his "sugar and spice" girl.

Jewelry hallmarks

Professional jewelry appraisals completed by gemologists and valuers often have to take into account the effect the jewelry hallmarks have on the value of each item being appraised. Do they alter the price, up or down, depending on the hallmark. The simple answer is yes – and no. It depends on the hallmarks themselves and where they come from.

I get similar questions on forums and ‘expert’ websites, together with my own members discussion group. They are usually in the following format, and in general the same questions get asked over and over again. They go… Continue reading Jewelry Hallmarks And What They Mean...

Vintage is often a term that is used when describing fashions from the past that aren’t quiet at the level of being considered antiques but are still classics. Vintage engagement rings can be from any time period considered to be more modern than ancient, typically from the early 1900’s to the retro period of even into the 1970’s.

Most of the engagement rings from these time periods had very distinctive qualities that uniquely categorize the rings as being vintage. Typically the rings included both yellow and white gold combinations on the… Continue reading Engagement Rings From The Past ...
