Jewelry Hallmarks
Jewelry hallmarks
Question: I was very dissatisfied with the other "expert" I ask a question of (Editors Note: NOT at this site).
Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers (Schiffer Book for Collectors)
Price: $22.53
The question pertained to Silver, gold or any jewelry hallmarks.
Can you provide a link to a list/catalog/directory of manufacturer's hallmarks..?
Answer: G'day and many thanks for your query
The main problem with Hallmarks is that there is NO central registry for world Hallmarks.
While the British and some European countries do have a strict system going back hundreds of years, there are other countries that simply stamp the gold quality (ie: 14ct or 18K) and leave it at that.

Just to add further confusion - some countries in South East Asia for example, have a HUGE manufacturing base yet no rules or regulations when it comes to Hallmarks, Store names, Manufacturers or Maker's Marks.
Basically this means that anyone - anywhere - can make and stamp their jewelry with whatever they want.
Can you imagine the millions of Hobby Jewelers, some very good, who make for a small market. They stamp their items with no thought to 'How people are going to find them' years from now.
This has been the bain of Jewelers and Valuers (myself included) for many years.
So we all have to scramble for whatever info we can find in books from all over the world and the few websites which provide just a SMALL amount of data.
One useful place is the Antique Jewelry of the 20th Century website because they have a complimentary email course on UK British Hallmarks. You can find them at:

Hope this helps Gary - and welcome to the frustrating world of Hallmarking. Just remember that once you have all the details, you can record them in our Jewelry Appraisals Online database.

Titanium Bracelets:
Some men are not crazy about the idea of wearing jewelry. Myself included, ever since I arrived in Australia because their attitude is different to Britain.

I am trying to find the company for a ring so that I can order it for my customers. It is a two tone gold ring with white gold on the edges and gold on the interrior. The inside of the ring is stamped w14kC with an underline. If anyone has any idea what company it could be from, please email me at silversword41@aol.com. Thank you very much.
