Old Cameo Locket

March 06, 2008 By: admin Category: Pendant Appraisals

Old Cameo Locket Question: Hi there, :)

I am not sure if i am asking the right person or not, I hope I am as I have a tiny gold locket and I am confused by the markings on it.

It is a delicate little thing, only about 1 and a half cms wide and long. It is heart shaped, with a thin zigzag pattern engraved around the edge on the front.

Cameos: Classical to Costume (Schiffer Book for Collectors)

Price: $40.00

After the pattern is a few, spaced out, swirly like lines that swirl around the main focus point, which is a cameo which sits in the middle, attached in 6 claws. The cameo is about 1cm wide and long and sits closer to the top of the locket then the bottom.

It is very pretty and opens up, it does not have any hinges, it simply has two rings attached to the top of the locket, one on each side, that a link goes through so it can be put on a chain and the top of locket simply sits on top of the bottom half and when it opens ups, it opens up completely with the top being able to be flipped over so the front and back of the locket can lay flat on a surface.

The back of the locket is stamped down the bottom near the V part of the heart and it reads 10CT.L.D this is marked straight across the bottom of the locket, i am unsure what it means, does it mean Gold Lined?

I am unsure, thank you for your help. Jo :)

P.s I have tried to find the answer but can not find any gold markings that match or explain it, thank you for you time, if possible would you be able to guess it age? Thanks.

Ring Appraisal After Resizing

February 26, 2008 By: admin Category: Mens Jewelry Appraisals

Gold Ring Appraisal After Resizing Question:

Hello, My spouse had a ring made for me, without knowing my ring size, and had it made a size 7.

The appraisal was done at that time and the ring weighed 6.7 grams. I had to have it resized down to a size 5.5, it then weighed 6.18 grams.

Practical Jewellery Repair

Price: $22.04

I recently had to have it resized up to a size 6.5 and it still weighs 6.18 grams.

This was all done at the original place of purchase.

This last resize is a bad job as there is a divot and you can see where it was resized, also an emerald has been chipped.

It is a gold band that is (was) fairly thick all the way around with stones only on the top.

How does the change in weight affect my original appraisal if I were to resell the ring?

I’m quite disheartened by the bad resize job and no change in gold weight, is that normal?

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me. :-)

Is ct same as k?

February 11, 2008 By: admin Category: Bracelet Appraisals

CT same as K Question: I have a bracelet that is marked 14ct.

Is that the same as 14K?

Kari

Answer: In answer to your CT same as K question

G’day Kari and many thanks for your query.

The simple answer is YES!

It depends what part of the world you come from. In Britain, Canada and most of the British Empire - like Australia and New Zealand, South Africa etc - they use the abbreviation ct for carat - as in 9 carat gold, or 9ct.

But there is much more to this simple answer…

Ring Appraisal | Am I Too Late?

February 02, 2008 By: admin Category: General Jewelry Appraisals

Semi-Precious Ring Appraisal Question: My ring was bought new for me at a local fine jewelers 35 years ago.

It is 10k gold.

Rings: Jewelry of Power, Love, and Loyalty

Price: $31.17

The band is thin and has a flower stem with a leaf on each side of the stem. The Flower is the stone, and I believe it is aquamarine, since that is my birthstone.

I have misplaced the ring and I need to know if it had any value before I have a meltdown.

It was $35.00 new. Thank You.

European Hallmarks

January 21, 2008 By: admin Category: General Jewelry Appraisals

European Gold Hallmark Question: I recently purchased a ring from a local antique store whom purchased the ring through an estate auction.

Hallmark: A History of the London Assay Office

Price: $55.00

Its band is a very soft (light) yellow gold color. It has a hallmark of P531.

I have looked up as much as I could find, and all I can find is what 12kt and 14kt numbers are in European hallmarks.

So, if this is an European hallmark, than it seems it would be about 13.5 part gold, but I can’t seem to find anything that states there is such a gold combination.

I have also seen the letter markings stating the years in could have possibly been made in, but the “P” text does not seem to match any that I found.

The “P” is also not enclosed in a box. Any help would be so appreciated.

Thank You!
