Want To Surprise Someone Special? Give Personalized Jewelry

February 4th, 2010

There are a million ways to show you care. You could write your loved one a sweet note before you go off to work, or give them flowers on their birthday. But those are just a few of many ideas to show love. And the truth is, as many ways there are to say you love someone, there are just as many occasions to show it. There are holidays in which people bring brightly wrapped presents. Then there are anniversaries where people show love by celebrating the longevity of it. There are certainly no lacking of instances in which a person can say they care. The only trouble is figuring out a way to say it. How do you find the right words to say? How can you make a gift precious without being flashy or gaudy? The simple solution is jewelry. Jewelry, in all its versatility, can be anything you want it to be. Whether it is a ring or a watch, there is a piece of jewelry out there for every occasion. Better yet, there is a way to make jewelry even more special. Personalized jewelry makes an item special because it shows thoughtfulness. With an engraved message or having their name encrusted in diamonds, there is a way to enchant with jewelry.

The reason jewelry can become so personal after seeing their name on it, is because a person has a special connection with their name. It is part of the impression one feels when seeing their name shiny and everlasting on something beautiful. A name is something that a person grows up with. Kids learn to spell it, and later learn why they were given that name, and even later see how it looks as a signature on important papers. A name grows up, survives nicknames and abbreviations, and becomes as old at the owner. That is why name jewelry can take a person’s breath away when given it as a gift. It shows that the giver thinks the receiver’s name is special and worth remembering for a lifetime. And a person will have a great pleasure in seeing and wearing their name in such a pretty way. Wearing one’s name in jewelry is not the same as wearing your name at work or at a new school, it is much more sentimental.

So the next time you can’t decide on a gift, never fear. Remember, jewelry is never a bad gift when given correctly. Initial jewelry or rings with engraved messages can never go out of style.

Professional jewelry appraisals completed by gemologists and valuers often have to take into account the effect the jewelry hallmarks have on the value of each item being appraised. Do they alter the price, up or down, depending on the hallmark. The simple answer is yes – and no. It depends on the hallmarks themselves and where they come from.

I get similar questions on forums and ‘expert’ websites, together with my own members discussion group. They are usually in the following format, and in general the same questions get asked over and over again. They go… Continue reading Jewelry Hallmarks And What They Mean...

While there was NOT a lot of information from a client called David in this ‘Ask The Appraiser’ Question, I considered it worthy of posting here on the Jewelry Appraisal Center blog.

British Hallmarks are the best in the world.

Who says so – the rest of the World – although to be fair, other countries have great hallmarks too, it is just that they are NOT so often seen…

So what do we really need to know…?

A book on World Hallmarks for Gold or Silver items is a must for any serious collector or dealer, but they can be a little intimidating and time consuming.

  • Could it be made in Switzerland or Germany?
  • Is that
