Our first piece of advice is to consult your local ‘Friendly’ Jeweler.
He or She (don’t tell them you are buying elsewhere, or they won’t be so ‘friendly), should be able to measure your finger and tell you what size you are. It’s then a simple matter of using the table listed here: Ring Finger Size Chart to get your size in any of the other International or Universal Ring Finger sizes mentioned…
Another easy method is to take a length of string or strip of ribbon (a small slip of paper will do) and wrap it around the finger, marking it with a pen where the ribbon overlaps. You will find more details below…
Lay that out and measure in either 16ths of an inch, or in millimeters (the latter is more accurate for those clients from countries which use the Metric system).
Remember the ring has to get over the knuckle, so make a slight allowance for that. Also bear in mind that your ‘Favored’ hand (Right for a right handed person etc) is likely to be slightly larger than your other hand, so measure the finger you want the ring for.
Your hand may vary by up to 5 sizes, finger by finger, one size at a time.

You can also use a Paper or Plastic ‘Hole Gauge’ which are sometimes freely available from your local Jeweler or ‘Mail Order Catalogue. These can be very effective, but you can make one for yourself if you want.
Just use the measurements from the Universal Ring Finger Sizes table.
Your fingers also swell and change day by day and hour by hour, depending what activities you are doing, so don’t measure your finger after coming from the Gym or doing the Gardening as this can throw off the measurement by at least a couple of sizes.
Hot weather too can make your fingers puff up too.
The number one rule is… DON’T PANIC..!

If you follow this advise you should end up with a perfect fit. If not, the worst that could happen is you wear it on another finger.

The last alternative is to ask your local Jeweler to resize it for you. He will charge, but he’ll be VERY Friendly. Honest!
