Lapis was first mined in Afhganistan over 6000 years ago. You can see some example of Lapis set in jewelry.

The stone is Capricorn's planetary stone and is also Libra's birthstone. Since it is such an ancient stone, lapis is considered a holy stone that brought the blue sky and the light of God down to Earth. Lapis is also known to be found in the breast plate of Aaron, the High Priest.

Lapis is not a extremely hard rock and it's rated as a 5. 5 on the Mohs scale, it was easily carved into vases and figurines by the Egyptians. Ulcers and boils were cured by the Egyptians using a concoction of ground lapis dust and milk. One final use for lapis dust by the Egyptians was for cosmetic purposes. The color of the eyes really is striking when paired with the stone's brilliant blue color.

Lapis is unqiue and very pleasing to the eye
