How Does Diamond Clarity Affect A Diamond Jewelry ?

February 4th, 2010

You don’t have to use a diamond clarity chart to determine the diamond clarity of a diamond, but you are going to need to realize the importance of diamond clarity and how this is going to affect your shopping for any diamond piece. This is actually one of the four C’s that you are going to have to consider if you are trying to shop for a piece of diamond jewelry.

Besides diamond clarity there is cut, color and carat weight of the diamond that you are going to need to take into consideration here to make sure that you are choosing the right diamond piece and not getting ripped off. When buying a diamond an individual should not ignore the diamond clarity.

What Role Diamond Clarity Plays

The clarity of a diamond is the feature that is going to have the most significant effect on what the diamond is going to look like overall, which is why it is so important. To evaluate the clarity of a diamond, you are going to need to learn about the most common terms that are used, such as diamond inclusions which refers to imperfections or flaws in a diamond.

The value of diamond decreases with the increase in it's flaws. More than anything you need to make sure that you look for cracks in the diamond because while some smaller cracks are not going to be a problem in some cases larger cracks could actually cause the diamond to split, and so obviously you need to be aware of this.

If you find a diamond that has a diamond clarity that is IF or internally flawless, this means that there are no imperfections or blemishes on the inside of the diamond although there may be on the exterior of the diamond.

If you really want to have the most success when you go out to get diamond jewelry of any sort, you will want a jeweler to come along with you or at least bring someone along who has experience buying diamond jewelry. This way they can let you know what the best jewelry stores are and you are not going to have to worry about making a mistake and getting a piece of diamond jewelry that is not worth your  money because this can happen easily.

British Hallmarks are the best in the world.

Who says so – the rest of the World – although to be fair, other countries have great hallmarks too, it is just that they are NOT so often seen…

So what do we really need to know…?

A book on World Hallmarks for Gold or Silver items is a must for any serious collector or dealer, but they can be a little intimidating and time consuming.

  • Could it be made in Switzerland or Germany?
