G’day Jean and many thanks for your comment. There is no ‘Use-by-date’ or hallmark which will identify ivory. Generally it is down to the experience of the dealer who may have seen thousands of similar items and can judge from that.

I suggest you start with your local Antique Auction House because they give opinions without charge (they want your business after all) so as long as they THINK you might sell something through the business (SShhhh – don’t tell ‘em) you might at least be pointed in the right direction.
