Identifying Jewelry Question: Do you know the value and any info on the maker / stone / age, please?
They have the following marks: PR.ST. CO 1-20 12K GF Demi
This is a necklace and bracelet set.
2 of the stones are turned so you can see the back.
Notice the scrolls, front and back.
Thank you for your time.
Answer: G'day Linda and many thanks for your query.
My first reaction is that the item is NOT gold.
From the photo, it appears that some of the links are NOT soldered together - which is an indication they are not precious metal, but more of a imitation or Costume Jewelry. The backs of the settings look stamped.
The gemstones too, are not cut with the classic 57 facets of a Brilliant cut, but look more like a standard paste.
But please remember we can't see it properly, or test it or measure it, so all of this is based on the limited resources you have supplied me.
Hallmark: A History of the London Assay Office
Price: $44.99
The Hallmark is also indicating a costume jewelry item with the PR.ST CO as a Company Maker's Mark followed by 1-20 12K which would suggest it is one twentieth microns thick of a plated 12 Karat - again costume jewelry.
The GF also is a symbol for Gold Filled while the Demi part is just the design or model identification.

Jewelry hallmarks
Professional jewelry appraisals completed by gemologists and valuers often have to take into account the effect the jewelry hallmarks have on the value of each item being appraised. Do they alter the price, up or down, depending on the hallmark. The simple answer is yes – and no. It depends on the hallmarks themselves and where they come from.
I get similar questions on forums and ‘expert’ websites, together with my own members discussion group. They are usually in the following format, and in general the same questions get asked over and over again. They go… Continue reading Jewelry Hallmarks And What They Mean...
The Asscher cut diamond is unique that owes its name to Joseph Asscher the person that invented this particular stone way back in the year 1902. This diamond cut has as many as seventy-two facets and the diamond is shaped as a square though thanks to its parallel step facets as well as depth of corners it can be likened to an octagon as well. Sparkling Diamonds The true beauty of the Asscher cut diamond lays in the fact that such a cut helps make a diamond sparkle like no other diamond cut. Even though the Asscher cut… Continue reading The Asscher Cut Diamond Provides An Antique Feel...
Most people when they imagine a pearl are picturing perfect large round spherical gems, creamy white in colour with a shimmery iridescent surface. The reality is that pearls are usually irregular in shape, each one is different and to find one that is completely round is almost unheard of, not to mention trying to make a whole necklace of pearls that are all more or less the same. Natural pearls are the rarest and most highly valued variety, but nowadays most pearl jewellery is made from cultured or farmed pearls, which are grown on pearl farms… Continue reading What are the Main Differences Between Freshwater and Saltwater Pearls?...

im tryin to find the maker or dealer of this chain
its markings are inla 14kt italy
its 22.25 inches long, 4.2 or 4.3mm in width looks like a mariner chain that i seen on another site but the weights were not the same can u help me
is it worth anything or is it somthing i should give away to someone special
G’day James and many thanks for Asking the Appraiser.
One of the really great things about Antique or Vintage Jewelry was that you could see the Maker’s Marks and date and identify it. Sadly that is not so easy today.
Can you imagine just how many Manufacturing Jewelers there are in Italy? It is estimated to be well in excess of 2 million – Phew!
So I guess we can forget about WHO made it. But the rest of your query is more interesting.
You say it is marked with the 14 karat stamp, and even though we may not have had the item tested (it might NOT be gold after all) we will assume it is genuine.
The length and width do not help with the weight – and it is the weight which is the only factor when it comes to appraising jewelry like this. Remember that MOST chains and Bracelets are MACHINE MADE and NOT Make by hand like they used to.
Therefore: a chain is a chain is a chain is a chain. No difference from one to the next one. Nothing special about it. Just a nice chain.
It is certainly worth something so you might like to give it as a gift to someone you think is ‘Special.’ Why not?
You can either window shop for similar items in your local Mall or High Street, or even eBay – but in the long run you will need to get it valued by a qualified appraiser – who may – or may NOT be your local Friendly Jeweler (MOST are not).
As a side issue – Most FRIENDLY Jewelers will tell you what the weight is at no charge (knowing that helps).
Once you have that information, you can either use our online software to arrive at a price, or Pay someone else to do it for you. It really is the only way!
