The hallmarks are a rooster's head, a horse's head and a "gondola" or "Viking" type boat on water with the letter "E".

Thank you, Maile GG, CGA

Answer: G'day Maile and many thanks for your query.

You are quite correct in your observation that the Rooster (Cockerel) is the stamp for France, but with careful examination you should also see a Number in the stamp (1, 2 or 3) which would help date it.

However the Rooster changed shape PLUS the mark may be oval or Octahedral in shape.

This is a common mistake that people often overlook.
The Horse's head is a puzzle though as there was a Lion's head or a winged horse or even a rabbit. The boat may in fact be a swan, but there was no date letters as in British Hallmarks.

You might also like to add this query to our Jewelry Forum where there are more 'Experts' to help you.
http://www.online-jewelry-appraisals.net/jewelry-forum/as other may have had a similar problem.

Can't hurt anyway and who knows what answers you may get.

You will also be able to add a photo there also.

Hope this helps. One other point worth mentioning - Our Jewelry Appraisals Online Software will also print your Certificate with a photo of your jewelry. Great for Identification should anything ever happen to your jewelry in the future.
