Antique Jewelry Appraiser

Antique Jewelry Appraiser Now On Staff:

One of the very first objectives when we sat down to write the software for the jewelry appraisal system was to accommodate antique jewelry into the equation. For too long it was shoved onto the back burner as no other software program seemed to take antique valuations into account.

We wanted to change that!

Personally; after being in the jewelry industry for over 35 years - most of that time spent working in the antique and estate jewelry marketplace - we felt we had a few 'Pluses' on our side.

Firstly we were qualified Gemologists. We were also members of the Valuer's Council - a most important organisation for the training and classification of jewelry appraisals and affiliated to all the major world bodies.

We had qualified manufacturing jewelers on the payroll and we understood the retail and manufacturing side of the business as well. All good news so far...

On a side note, I had taken to the Internet like a Sapphire loves Diamonds. They just seemed right together and so I decided to study computing language (as you do - I am just a bit courious like that).

Some two years later I had a fair grasp of PHP and understood the workings of a MYSQL Database. HTML was a snap as I had already built several websites during the 'Good Ol' Days' when the very first version of Windows came out (seems like a million years ago now).

So there we were - waiting - and we waited about three years more before really getting down to the task. I must admit if I had known then just how long and hard it was going to be - I wouldn't have started.

One of my business Golden Rules is: It takes Twice as long - Is Twice as Hard and Costs Twice as Much!

But all that's History.

The first version of the Valuation Software was a testing ground for our own jewelry appraisals and worked almost perfectly. It just took a couple of months and several very helpful people who Beta Tested it for us before it came to the first public version.

Your request should have atleast 1 of the following parameters: 'Keywords','Title','Power','BrowseNode','Artist','Author','Actor','Director','AudienceRating','Manufacturer','MusicLabel','Composer','Publisher','Brand','Conductor','Orchestra','TextStream','Cuisine','City','Neighborhood'.

But one thing I have learned over the years is that the Internet and Software are NEVER stagnant. The constantly changing world became updated and upgraded from one version of the Internet to another. Hands up those who can remember working in Netscape and having a single color on a green monitor?

But eventually we got it down to a charm (jewelry pun). It worked, and most importantly, it was quick!

All Antique Variables were added to the system so we could calculate a premium or discount on Victorian or Edwardian Jewelry - right through to Art Deco and Art Nouveau. Retro jewelry and plain and simple 25 year old Vintage, all had to be accommodated. So we added just that too!

Sometime in 2006 the Valuation Manager was upgraded to make life easier for our clients, and the constant updates were systematized so that you - our valued clients - didn't have to worry about the changing price of gold or gemstones and manufacturing costs and the like. Too easy.

Now with our Membership site 'Insider's Guide' established we have other faculty staff who can take some of the workload of me personally (which gives me more time to help you in your appraisals) and bring an extra dimension to the Network as a whole.

ann1Our latest member is Ann-Elizabeth Dennis who has worked in the Antique Jewelry Business for over ##%$%&* Sorry - she wouldn't let me say how many years ;-)   but she IS older than me - so that's a clue.

So if you are looking to appraise some period or Antique Jewelry - then rest assured the software can cover that, and with an Antique Jewelry Appraiser on Staff - we are one more step down the road.

Now go and appraise that thing...

Jewelry hallmarks

Professional jewelry appraisals completed by gemologists and valuers often have to take into account the effect the jewelry hallmarks have on the value of each item being appraised. Do they alter the price, up or down, depending on the hallmark. The simple answer is yes – and no. It depends on the hallmarks themselves and where they come from.

I get similar questions on forums and ‘expert’ websites, together with my own members discussion group. They are usually in the following format, and in general the same questions get asked over and over again. They go… Continue reading Jewelry Hallmarks And What They Mean...

Most people when they imagine a pearl are picturing perfect large round spherical gems, creamy white in colour with a shimmery iridescent surface. The reality is that pearls are usually irregular in shape, each one is different and to find one that is completely round is almost unheard of, not to mention trying to make a whole necklace of pearls that are all more or less the same. Natural pearls are the rarest and most highly valued variety, but nowadays most pearl jewellery is made from cultured or farmed pearls, which are grown on pearl farms… Continue reading What are the Main Differences Between Freshwater and Saltwater Pearls?...

Name jewelry is one of the trendiest types of fashion accessory for both men and women. A large part of this modern upswing in popularity is due to the hip hop culture where large name jewelry items have become the defining fashion in bling. While much of the current fashion is large, bling-style pieces, name jewelry can range from delicate and subtle to big and bold. But name jewelry is also very popular as traditional mothers jewelry. Name rings and name necklaces are by far the most popular items with online stores and retailers… Continue reading Name Jewelry Trends...
